The Spaniard celebrated the first year anniversary of his retirement from football by stating his new career path via a post from his official Instagram account. Fernando Torres retired from football shortly after his short spell with Japanese top flight club Sagan Tosu. The Spaniard hanged his boots on the back of his career in Japan. Fernando Torres made the decision to retire from football at the age of 35 after his contract with Sagan Tosu ended last year. Fernando Torres scored five league goals in 35 appearances for Sagan Tosuduring his time in Japan.
Torres also praised the Liverpool squad that ended the club’s long wait for a league title some months ago. Fernando Torres was delighted with his former club who had not won any form of league title for three decades until this summer. Liverpool won their last league title at the end of the 1989/90 season. The Reds were able to end their 30-year wait for a league title by winning the Premier League title last season. The Reds became only the seventh club to win the Premier League title after Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Leicester City.
Fernando Torres came close to leading Liverpool to the Premier League title during the 2008/09 season but the Reds were unable to beat Manchester United to the title. The Reds finished that season behind their rivals in second place. Manchester United won the league title at the end of the 2008/09 campaign by four points.
